Ethereum
Ethereum is smart contract platform. Besides allowing for peer-to-peer transactions like Bitcoin, it also allows users to create smart contracts. These alow users to transact, interact and contract without relying on a trusted third party such as a bank.

Blockchain data
The blocktime of Ethereum is 10 secondes. In comparaison, Bitcoin's blocktime is 10 minutes. In other words, Ethereum produces 60 times more blocks than Bitcoin. Therefore, to keep the file sizes reasonably small, the data for Ethereum is split into several smaller files.
