The blocktime of Litecoin is 2.5 minutes. In comparaison, Bitcoin's blocktime is 10 minutes. In other words, Litecoin produces 4 times more blocks than Bitcoin. Therefore, to keep the file sizes reasonably small, the data for Litecoin is split into several smaller files
